Artist Meets Arts Leader

Malik Seneferu, Bayview’s iconic artist, meets Denise Pate, a beacon in Black arts leadership.

Born in Bayview, Malik Seneferu‘s journey began over 30 years ago under mentor JoeSam., who introduced him to the Hunters Point Shipyard Artists. Today, he’s renowned as a muralist, painter, sculptor, and youth life coach. His art narrates his resilience in the face of Bayview Hunters Point’s challenges.

Denise Pate, Director of Community Investments at the San Francisco Arts Commission, has championed the arts in San Francisco and previously in Oakland for over two decades. Besides overseeing grant awards, she offers consultancy to help artists and institutions flourish.

Anne Trickey, Senior Program Officer at SF Arts Commission, will guide artists on grant applications from the Community Investments Program.
