Color, tone and hue predominate these works that exploit the inherent movement of oil paint. My process begins with color, building up layers opacity and translucence to explore the subtleties and range of tone. The complexities and richness supersede the constrained palette. These layered, atmospheric spaces flow through tonal shifts until they intersect. These juxtapositions further enhance the color dynamics and create ambiguous places.  The abstract environments created illustrate spaces that always captivate me; the places where man and nature, land and sky, and reality and perception intersect.

Fall Open Studios 2020 will happen at the Hunters Point Shipyard!

Shipyard Artists have welcomed visitors for Open Studios since 1984, and this year will be no exception! While safe in-person visits can be scheduled with individual artists over a 3-week period, we have additional virtual events and options for you!
After our Spring Open Studios had to be canceled in April, we created a new online art gallery and store. where you can purchase the artists' newest creations, opening Friday, Sept 25 at 5PM.

Over 50 participating artists are waiting to communicate with you!

On Friday, Sept 25, 5PM-8PM, our Virtual Store will be open for the first time, and artists will be online and waiting to communicate with you via zoom, email or phone.

On Saturday, Sept 26, 10AM-2PM, you can virtually visit with Shipyard artists who have signed up for ArtSpan's Open Studios .

On Sunday, Sept 27, 11AM-6PM, we will host an interactive Virtual Tour event, where you will be able to zoom into the studios of participating artists just as you would in person during a normal Open Studios event, visit our virtual store and buy direct from artists.

From Sept 25 - Oct 14 our online store will be open. Artists will offer in-person studio visits by appointment, curbside pick-ups of art purchased, and private zoom meetings. Artist contact info and scheduling options will be posted on each artist's page and next to available artworks.

Direct store links will be available from each participating artist's page starting at 5PM on Friday, Sep 25.
