Directions to Hunters Point Shipyard Artists and Islais Creek Studios

and getting around once you're here

Hunters Point Shipyard artist studios are open to the public two weekends a year for Open Studios and the annual Holiday Party and Art Show. Access to the studios at other times is by appointment with the artist you are visiting.

The interactive maps below provide driving, transit, and walking or cycling directions from any starting point to the Hunters Point Shipyard Artists and to Islais Creek Studios. Printable directions are below the maps. (451 Galvez Ave. is where the public street ends at the security gate.

To search in Google Maps use 451 Galvez Ave. not "Hunters Point Shipyard Artists."

Directions to Hunters Point Shipyard

From East Bay

Cross the Bay Bridge and continue on 101 South. Exit at Cesar Chavez East. Follow Cesar Chavez east and turn right at the light onto Evans Ave. Cross 3rd St. and stay on Evans for another 1.4 miles (Evans becomes Hunters Point Blvd., then Innes St) to the second stop sign, Donahue St. Turn left at Donahue to enter the Shipyard. During Open Studios, parking attendants at the Shipyard gate will give you a program with building maps and direct you to parking.

From South Bay

Take 101 North and exit on Third St. Continue on Third St and take a right on Evans Ave. Stay on Evans for 1.4 miles (Evans becomes Hunters Point Blvd., then Innes St) to the second stop sign, Donahue St. Turn left at Donahue to enter the Shipyard. During Open Studios, parking attendants at the Shipyard gate will give you a program with building maps and direct you to parking.

From downtown San Francisco

Head south on 3rd St. past Cesar Chavez St. and turn left at Evans Ave. Follow Evans for 1.4 miles; (Evans becomes Hunters Point Blvd., then Innes St) to the second stop sign, Donahue St. Turn left at Donahue to enter the Shipyard. During Open Studios, parking attendants at the Shipyard gate will give you a program with building maps and direct you to parking.

The Shipyard Gallery is in Building 101, on the first floor to the left of the main front doors. Look for the large overhead sign at the first hallway crossing.

Hunters Point Shipyard metal artists and welders are at 1 Rankin St. From the Shipyard turn left on Donahue St., take the first right on Innes St., and continue on Hunters Point Blvd. and Evans Ave. west across 3rd St. and the railroad tracks, turn right at the next traffic light and follow Rankin St. two blocks to the end.

From other points take 101 to the Cesar Chavez St. East exit, turn right on Evans Ave. to the second traffic light, and turn left onto Rankin St.

During Open Studios events, look for the red signs directing you to Islais Creek Studios.

Public Transportation

Hunters Point Shipyard is at the outbound ("Hunters Point") end of the Muni 19 Polk bus line (link opens a new browser tab).

Islais Creek Studios is at the end of Rankin St. two blocks north of the 19 Polk bus stop at Evans Ave. and Rankin St. It is also a short walk from the T-3rd St. Muni rail station at Evans Ave.: walk west on Evans Ave. across Phelps St. and take the third right on Rankin St. (total 0.4 mi., 8 min.).


Building 101 access

Parking near Building 101 is extremely limited. Persons with limited mobility are given priority for the two small lots there.

  • Access Building 101 via a paved walkway from Galvez St. near the security gate. You will be directed to parking and the walkway, which leads to two wheelchair-accessible entrances to Building 101.
  • The Muni 19 Polk St - Hunters Point bus line stops a few steps from the Building 101 walkway.

Getting around once you're here

ADA imageThe first floor of all buildings is wheelchair accessible. Second-floor studios can be reached only by stairs; there are no elevators.
