The live outdoor viewing area will come alive with music and sounds inspired by the history of the Shipyard, blending live sound and light performances with the ambient echoes of this iconic San Francisco landmark.

Primary Viewing at Building 101: As the crane lights up the night sky, experience the spectacle from Building 101 where artists will host special illumination parties in their studios, offering the best views and a chance to experience the creative energy of the Shipyard community firsthand.

Event Highlights:

  • Illumination Viewing: While Building 101 is our main celebration hub, the illuminated crane will also be visible from various locations such as the Hilltop Overlook, Candlestick area, Brisbane, and Bernal Heights, from dusk until 10 PM.
  • Live Music & Light Performances: Enjoy live sets at 7:15 PM, 8:00 PM, and 9:00 PM in the central outdoor viewing area adjacent to Building 101 or the many artist studios with crane views.

The Light & Sound Artists:

Planning for the crane illumination project—a fusion of video and light art as well as music and spoken word—has been ongoing for over a year, with the renowned team of Ian Winters and Elaine Buckholtz brought on to imagine the artistic and technical aspects of the crane illumination. Past projects of the pair include Lumière at the Penshaw monument in the UK. The illumination and live sounds will be presented at Shipyard Building 101 on October 19, 6 – 10 PM. The illuminated crane can also be viewed from any other locations where it is visible, with the option to tune in to the streamed soundscape presentation.
Soundscape Artists: Evelyn Ficarra, Chris Evans, David Boyce, PC Munoz
