Registration: You must email me (lindahope.art@gmail.com) or call me (415-334-3603) with your intention to enroll; I may have to limit enrollment numbers to allow for safe distancing. If you email me, please provide a phone number should I need to reach you. Payment can be made in-person at the first class meeting. You can enroll in either or both classes.

About the classes: This arc of classes is derived from the lesson plans of my many years of teaching figure drawing.  I will begin with a “Fundamentals” approach during the first 6 weeks, so those of you who may not have been able to draw from the model in a while will be able to re-enter the practice.  From there, I will shift into the introduction of concepts, constructs and methods that go beyond the beginning or “Fundamental” level.  I am, however, prepared to shift my approach, and to “speed up”  or “slow down” as best suits the most people, while we all resume or re-enter a regular drawing practice.  The model fees are included in the cost of the class.

The classes are three and a half hours long.  The model will start posing at 11:30 and will work until 2:30.  The half-hour from 11:00-11:30 will be used for discussion and Q&A;  surface anatomy as is relevant to drawing; and special techniques or drawing process demonstrations.

What to expect:

•  Proof of vaccination and booster will be required to enter the Clubhouse.  I will check these on the first day of class–a photo of your vaccination card on a phone is fine.

•  Masks must be worn at all times inside the MPIC Clubhouse.

•  Eating and drinking are only allowed outside. (Drinking water during class while briefly lowering your mask is fine)

•  There are two large air cleaners in the room, a large exhaust fan, and opposing openings that would allow for cross-ventilation.

•  The number of easels is limited (only 3 or 4 at the moment) but tables and chairs are provided that work well for figure drawing.

•  Please bring your own drawing board, if you have one. (There are only a handful of extra ones.)

•  I will provide a recommended materials list when you contact me with your intention to enroll.  (I am now recommending you get a Graphite Stick “4-pack” with #2B, #4B and #6B graphite sticks–these are really fun to use when you do not want to generate a lot of charcoal dust!)

About the MPIC Clubhouse:  The MIPC (Miraloma Park Improvement Club) Clubhouse is located at the intersection O’Shaughnessy Blvd. and Del Vale Ave. in San Francisco.  It is near Glen Park, Diamond Heights, Twin Peaks and Portola/Upper Market. The clubhouse, which is a San Francisco Historic Building, has its own adjacent parking lot with around 30-35 parking spaces.  The 44 O’Shaughnessy Muni bus line stops right in front of the Clubhouse, at the intersection of Del Vale and O’Shaughnessy Blvd.  You can catch the 44 Muni bus at the Glen Park Bart Station or at Upper Market (Portola) to get to the Clubhouse.  44 O’Shaughnessy Route and Map

2. CCSF Extension Drawing Online Mondays

Class: Learn to Draw from Life: A Tabletop Approach
When: Mondays  6:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Dates:  September 12 – October 24  7-weeks
Where: On-line via Zoom and CANVAS on-line learning platforms
Cost: $275  or Discount: Enter Promo code: FALL22 to receive a 15% discount

Registration: Tabletop Drawing Follow this link to read about the class, to find out more information about it, and to register on-line.  Upon registration, you will receive information from the City Extension office about how to join the first night of class.

About this Class: Learn drawing techniques and processes by drawing from life, using easily found objects. Objects recommended will be ones well suited to “tabletop drawing” and will serve as the subject matter that will best lend itself to each exercise. In-workshop demonstrations via Zoom will include a journey through the elements of drawing, beginning with contemplative line. Then, we will move through line’s many applications. With the introduction of different media, discover how fluid movement can be used as gestural approaches begin to reveal form. This will lead to more complex and richer renderings. A full list of recommended materials is provided by clicking on the registration link above. You will need internet access and a device (phone, tablet or laptop) with a camera and you will need to install the “Zoom” application. You are free to call me if you need help with this: Linda 415-334-3603.

What to expect: The last half hour of each session will be optional and reserved for questions and answers. If you need to leave class early, that will be fine! I will be teaching from my studio, with a monitor set-up for students to watch demonstrations. I will be drawing at the same time that everyone else is, using the same timed exercises that everyone else will be doing; if you want to observe the exercises, you can watch the monitor that is focused on my sketchbook page as I draw along.

3. CCSF Extension Painting Online Mondays

Class:  Acrylic Painting: The Four Basic Techniques
When: Mondays  6:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Dates:  October 31 – December 12  7-weeks
Where: On-line via Zoom and CANVAS on-line learning platforms
Cost: $275 or Discount: Enter Promo code: FALL22 to receive a 15% discount

Registration: Acrylic Painting Follow this link to read about the class, to find out more information about it, and to register on-line.  Upon registration, you will receive information from the City Extension office about how to join the first night of class.

About this class: This workshop is a structured introduction to painting with acrylic paints. Several fundamental techniques will be introduced with respect to the unique properties of acrylic paints and mediums, including the smooth blend, broken brushstroke/broken color, optical blending and using glazes to create complex color. In-workshop demonstrations via Zoom will include an introduction to basic paint handling processes; compositional possibilities; and applied color theory. Further instruction will be based on individual questions or concerns brought up in class.

What to expect:  While this class is designed for students who might never have had an acrylic painting class before, all levels will be welcome! Those of you who might be returning to a painting practice are free to come to class with works-in-progress or ideas and I am prepared to work with each student one-on-one as needs arise. I have been teaching Acrylic Painting remotely from my studio on an ongoing basis since our ouster from Ft. Mason, and have found that the group painting experience on-line can be exciting, fulfilling, and fun–even if everyone is not in the same room! If you miss painting, come join us here! The last half hour of each session will be optional and reserved for questions and answers or discussion about anything related to acrylic painting, or best studio practices. If you need to leave class early, that will be fine! I will be teaching from my studio, with a monitor set-up for students to watch demonstrations.
