Bike-pedia is a bicycle-themed group show at the Museum of Northern California Art that coincides with the Chico Wildflower Century—an annual 100-mile ride that since 1981 has celebrated bike culture —and MONCA’s exhibit Northern California on Wikipedia, featuring images by Wikipedia photographer Fritz Schulenburg.

As a proud CSU Chico alumna (Bachelor of Arts in Art), I’m thrilled to be back exhibiting at the stately MONCA in my beloved, vibrant, bike-centric college town. My painting, “Artemis Hunter” (2023, oil on canvas, 24 x 36 inches), is based on the nom de plume of my college roommate, an English major, who blended mythology with a feminist sensibility in her fictional work. When I heard MONCA’s call for submission, I wanted to create a portrait of Artemis, to bring her to life perched atop a bicycle—her modern-day chariot—cruising the canals of Amsterdam with her spirit animal in tow.
