Included in the exhibit: Two of Marc Ellen’s paintings,  “Western Skies” (featured above) and “Wild Nature” (shown here)

Artists were required to cite artists who inspired them and Marc Ellen cited her inspiration as the painter Joan Mitchell.

Marc Ellen’s statement for the show:

Ever since I first saw the paintings of Joan Mitchell over 30 years ago, I have been thrilled and inspired by her work.   She followed her love of color with energetic, intuitive brushstrokes inspired by the love of the natural world around her.  Yes, I did rather “wish I could paint like Joan Mitchell,” but knew had to make my own work.  Yet her work gave me the permission to follow my own stream of consciousness and love of intense color until I could arrive at a place where I am both lost and found in the brushstrokes traveling over the canvas.

Included in the exhibit: Marc Ellen Hamel “Red Moons” 12” x 12” collage on panel
