News from Shipyard artist Marc Ellen Hamel: I will show over 25 of my abstract paintings in the exhibit “Expressions in Color” at Cafe Alma. The walls are high and wide here, so I am able to display a lot of work. My paintings are at once an exploration of color and an expression of recollections from moments or locations in my life. I would be happy to talk with you about them.

Expressions in Color
March 5 – April 30

Cafe Alma, 888 Innes Avenue, San Francisco

Reception: Saturday, March 9, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Cafe hours: 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday

Cafe Alma is located a few blocks before you reach the Hunters Point Shipyard artist studios. The owner, Kristin Houk, is an enthusiastic neighborhood and arts supporter and provides a delicious menu of lunchtime foods at her Cafe. Here is what Kristin told me: “We make local, fresh food sourced from the nearby Bayview neighborhood. Café Alma was created to provide the India Basin and Bayview community with a delicious, unique and health-conscious gourmet food hub that utilizes the incredible resources of the neighborhood. Located in a community-centric environment, we are more than just a restaurant–we are also an incubator for local small businesses, a community gathering space with options for private and public events and a place to relax, work, experience live music and workshops, and play!”
