The Shipyard Artists/STAR booth at the ART Silicon Valley/San Francisco fair in San Mateo October 9-12 was a great success. We were happy to be provided the booth free of charge and a financial donation by the event organizers. We saw the booth as a way to publicize the Hunters Point Shipyard and Islais Creek Studios Fall 2014 Open Studios coming up October 18-19.
The handful of STAR volunteers who set up and staffed the booth from Thursday evening through Sunday evening report that:
- A steady stream of visitors stopped by our booth: art lovers, gallery owners and other exhibitors, and artists from the Shipyard and elsewhere.
- We handed out hundreds of Fall Open Studios postcards and brochures and Open Studios Art Auction brochures.
- Our “teaser” display of 12″ x 12″ and smaller artworks drew widespread praise and many promises to come out next weekend to see more and larger.
STAR is forwarding the proceeds of all pieces sold to the respective artists. Unsold pieces are likely to be displayed in the artists’ studios next weekend or donated to the art auction.
