The Journey was created after Afatasi developed a series of new approaches to metal fabrication—the use of burn patterns as decorative elements, metal weaving, shadow play, and foraging for repurposed metal, as a medium for personal discovery. Inspired by The Great Migration and an over 100-year family history of metalworking traditions discovered as a result of genealogical exploration, this series celebrates the beauty, resilience and power of found objects and honoring family legacy through metalwork.
Artwork may be picked up in the Building 101 Gallery after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024. Other pickup dates available the following week.
