I grew up on Long Island, New York at a time when my neighborhood was still bordered by farmland. My early childhood experiences of running through sunlit fields lined with majestic trees has informed the artwork I create today – lush, pastoral landscapes. My artistic aim is to paint landscapes which convey a sense of the natural world.
Working on site, I capture a series of small vignettes to bring back to my studio where I distill them into paintings of heightened reality. My landscapes are full of dramatic lights and darks with rich, saturated color. A white farmhouse may be shown in brilliant white light, while a dazzling golden hillside is edged by cool blue shadows. Through my images I hope to inspire the viewer to appreciate the precious rural areas which remain unspoiled, a place where life resonates with serenity and delight.
