Bruce Katz

I see my role of artist as interpreting the beauty I find in the world around me. I paint in a contemporary representational style, focusing on traditional subject matter such as landscape, cityscape and still life.

I’m particularly inspired by how light and shadow, touching upon the ordinary scenes and objects of our everyday lives, transform them and infuse them with drama, mood and poetry. That is what I try to communicate in paint.

I mostly paint with oils and I work both from life and other reference materials.

I’ve painted all my life, studying in my teen years at Art Students League in New York City and The National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan, and as an adult at City College in San Francisco, University of California at Berkeley and privately with a number of fine painters.

I show my work in my studio at Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco and at various galleries throughout the area.

I teach workshops privately throughout the year in both studio and plein air painting.

My paintings and information about shows and workshops can be seen on my website, brucekatzstudio.com. I can also be followed on Facebook at facebook.com/bruce.katz.52 and on Instagram at instagram.com/bruce_katz
