Judy Hummell

Drawing inspiration from ancient and primitive pottery, I use methods of the earliest potters for forming and firing clay. My pots are hand-built using the method of coiling. They are burnished with a smooth stone and then pit fired in sawdust, with copper carbonate and salt, and wood.  The microcosmic patterns of color are created on my pots by chance and reflect their singular journey through the elements: earth and water, wind and fire.
