Marc Ellen Hamel

My latest series of abstract oil paintings, “Reflections of Nature,” was inspired by time spent in nature, both in rural and wilderness areas of California and in city gardens.  They are recollections of paths walked and days spent in lush and colorful natural locations. These are not done “en plein aire” – rather I carry the moments with me and when I return to the studio, ready to fill a canvas with paint, the scenes, shadows, colors that have nourished me return to mind and with brushstrokes, shapes, and interactions of colorful paint, I bring a version that beauty forward again as a testament to what I have seen and felt.
