Martine Jardel

Born in Paris, France
BFA, 1994, Art Institute, and MFA, 1998, San Francisco State, in painting

Color is an essential aspect both in my painting process and in the final stage of the work. For many years I lived in countries such as Yemen, Colombia, Burma, and Canada before moving to San Francisco in 1992.  Through traveling and residing in such varied places, my vision became sensitive to the different rhythms, lights, emotions, and moods one may feel while hiking in nature, or walking in cities, or just by having been immersed in different cultures.  My work resists specificity, leaving open to interpretation its dream-like landscapes, undefined color fields, and potential meanings.
