Randy Beckelheimer

Beckelheimer’s paintings reference fifteen years of photographing the shipyard and the surrounding community. Although originally an abstract painter, the artist’s habit of photographing and researching the shipyard led him to representational painting. A number of somber grayscale paintings in the show are based on historical images he found at the public library. He sometimes composes using “photo stitching,” a computer imaging technique for tacking images together into crude templates by combining multiple photographs, taken at different times of day, compounding them into whole paintings. –Lani Asher, ArtPractical.com
